More moods
Intense doesn't describe a color, but a density. It's the mood where everything happens at once and nothing has room left — the counterpart to atmospheric music, which lives on space.
How to recognize it
By the full frequency picture: bass, mids, and highs are occupied throughout, with hardly any gaps. By the continuous motion — sixteenth notes in the percussion, eighth notes in the strings, plus layers that overlap instead of alternating. And by the loudness in relation: intense music has little dynamic range, because it stays up top all the time.
The line to aggressive is the sound character. Intense can be clean and orchestral; aggressive has distortion.
What it's suited for
For anything with drive: sports highlight reels, esports, action sequences, product reveals with tempo, fitness and motivation videos, gaming trailers, fast cut sequences. Intense music carries images that already tell a lot on their own, without competing with them — because it doesn't push its own melody to the front.
What it's not for: under dialogue. A full frequency image leaves no room for a voice, even with ducking.
