Mysterious is the mood of the unexplained. Not threatening like dark, not charged with tension like tense — but open. Something is there, and you don't know what.
How to recognize it
In open harmony: fourth and fifth chords without a third, church modes instead of major or minor, parallel movements that resist classical resolution. In timbres of unclear origin — wordless choir pads, bowed cymbals, glass harmonica, detuned bells, reversed sounds.
And in the irregularity: mystical music often has no fixed meter. What replaces the pulse is breath.
What it's suited for
For everything unexplained: fantasy and fairy tales, science fiction, dream and flashback sequences, nature documentaries about the deep sea, caves, or night, museum and exhibition installations, puzzle passages in games, meditation and mindfulness formats.
What it's not for: explaining things. Mystical music asks questions — if it plays under a film that gives answers, image and sound work against each other.
No PRO registration
Royalty-free and GVL-free: both the composition and the recording are cleared. For exhibitions and installations, where music runs continuously and publicly, the second part is the more important one — otherwise the GVL will come calling. Cue sheet automatic, license one-time from 1.49 €.
