More moods
Dramatic is the mood of unresolved conflict. It carries the moment where the outcome is still open — and that's what sets it apart from epic and heroic music, both of which already assert a direction.
How to recognize dramatic music
It works with friction. Typical elements are sustained low tones over which dissonances build up, tremolo strings, isolated accents in brass or percussion instead of a continuous Pulses, and pauses — dramatic music isn't afraid to stop.
The structure isn't linear like trailer music, but wave-like: tension, brief release, greater tension. This gives a scene time to develop, instead of pushing it in one direction.
What it's suited for
For anything that has a development: feature film and TV scenes, documentaries with conflict, crime and courtroom material, reportages, crisis communication, game sequences before the decision. In corporate videos, it works for the middle part — the problem the company then solves.
For advertising it's usually too open-ended: a spot has thirty seconds and needs a statement, not a question.
