General
As musicians and producers, we started out on the C64. Back then, the SID chip was the measure of all things music. SID stands for Sound Interface Device, and we simply thought the name fit our platform well. SIDtunez emerged from the two long-running projects Hartwigmedia and Soundcritters and combines professional royalty-free music with a unique Production Music Library — all made in Germany. So no, SID has nothing to do with the sloth from Ice Age ;-)
No. All tracks in the Production Music Library catalog are composed and arranged by humans, performed by musicians or programmed using instrument and sample libraries, and produced by humans. We do not use generative AI — that is, programs that generate melodies, lyrics, vocals, instrumental tracks, or sounds on their own — and we do not add such tracks to the catalog.
Common studio tools that only edit existing recordings remain permitted, such as for mixing and mastering, noise removal, or pitch correction — even if they rely on machine learning.
This commitment has been part of the License Terms (§ 3.2) since 22.09.2026 and applies to licenses, ASM mixes, and free downloads.
ASM Custom Mixes are automatically removed after 48 hours. Your invoice and license certificate will of course remain available under My Account. However, the download is irretrievably lost and deleted after 48 hours.**
**
Why? Because our servers also have capacity limits, and a tool like the ASM uses up a lot of it. That's why we've currently decided to take this step.
SO: Be sure to download ASM mixes to your local hard drive right away, but no later than 48 hours - otherwise the mix will be lost and cannot be recovered.

This applies only to ASM mixes: regular licenses remain in your account for download whenever you want and are not deleted - unless you request deletion of your account.
Use the track search with filters for genre, BPM, key, and mood tags. Alternatively, browse our curated playlists or the genre landing pages with thematically matching tracks. If you don't find what you're looking for, write to us — we're happy to help with your selection.
BPM (Beats per Minute) indicates the tempo — a lower value means slower/calmer, a higher value means more driving. Key is the musical key (e.g., C major, A minor). Both help you find tracks that match the mood or can be mixed with other tracks.

GEMA & Legal
"Royalty-free" means the composers are not members of GEMA (Gesellschaft für musikalische Aufführungs- und mechanische Vervielfältigungsrechte) — the German performing rights organization. This means you don't have to pay any GEMA fees when using the music publicly. This significantly reduces costs for advertising, TV, and online content.
Short answer: NO
SIDtunez offers exclusively royalty-free music — not registered with GEMA or GVL — in its production music library.
If you have a commercial license, we'll clear your video so you can monetize it. At checkout you can enter the link to your YouTube video directly in the project field, and we can whitelist it right away. Unfortunately, this isn't possible with free use.
Yes. You may shorten, cut, layer, and adapt tracks to fit your scene. Tempo or pitch changes are also allowed. What's prohibited is sharing the original file or releasing the track as a standalone work (e.g., as a single on Spotify).
Licenses & Use
Yes, you'll receive an invoice and the GEMA-free certificate for every commercial order.
When using our music under the free plan, you won't receive a royalty-free certificate.
A production music license is a usage right that allows you to use a music track in your own projects — films, commercials, YouTube videos, podcasts, and more. You don't buy the rights to the track itself, but rather a permission to use it, defined by time and scope of use.
For this you need the affordable YouTube license. It applies to one video, is unrestricted territorially, and has no time limit.
For a commercial, you need the Media License. In addition to the certificate confirming the music is royalty-free and GVL-free, you'll also receive the high-quality music files (WAV, 24 bit, stereo), including variants and stems (if available).
The use of all SIDtunez music tracks from the Production Music Library is valid indefinitely and worldwide.
Technical & Audio
Stems are the individual tracks that make up a track — for example, drums, bass, strings, and synths, each as a separate audio file. This lets you remove individual elements during editing, boost certain passages, or use layers for your own mixes. Stems are especially valuable for professional film and advertising productions. All stems on Sidtunez are unmastered and can be processed further as needed.
Many tracks are available in multiple versions: Main (full mastered track), Instrumental (without vocals, singer, choir). This gives you several options for cutting and editing the track to suit your preferences.
By default, we deliver every purchased license as WAV (48 kHz / 24 bit). As a download, we provide a zip file with the mastered main track and all unmastered stems (if available). WAV is recommended for professional editing, MP3 for quick drafts and web players. The free MP3 download is always available and serves as a test license. The format for this is MP3, 128 kbit, stereo
