Aggressive differs from intense in sound, not in energy. Intense music can be clean; aggressive music has distortion, edge, dirt. It doesn't sound like an orchestra, but like a machine.
How to recognize it
By distorted textures: saturated basses, guitars with high gain, overdriven synthesizers. By hard transients — hits that punch right at the front instead of swelling. And by a harmony limited to few notes, often just root and fifth, so the sound doesn't turn muddy.
The tempo is usually high, the groove angular. Where trailer music thinks in halves, aggressive music thinks in sixteenths.
What it's suited for
For confrontation: combat sports and motorsport, esports and shooters, fitness and strength training videos, automotive and tech films with edge, metal- and rock-driven formats, game trailers with violent content.
What it's not for: brands that want closeness. Aggressive music draws a line — it speaks to one audience and excludes others. That can be intentional; unintentionally, it's costly.
