Why licensed music triggers a claim in the first place
Content ID is YouTube's automatic fingerprint system. Rights holders register their tracks in it – regardless of the licensing model. If you upload a video with a registered track, the system detects the match and displays a claim. Important: a valid license does not prevent detection. It only determines what happens after detection.
That's exactly why a claim is normal with professional production music and not a sign of an error. "Royalty-free" doesn't mean "copyright-free" – someone holds the rights, and this catalog can be registered in the Content ID system.
A claim is not the same as a strike
The most important point up front – and the reason why many people panic unnecessarily: an automatic claim and a copyright strike are two completely different things.
A Content ID claim from licensed music will, at worst, cost you the ad revenue for that one video – never the channel.
The clean solution: whitelisting
Reputable providers who own the rights to their catalog offer a whitelisting or claim release process: the approved videos are excluded from claims in the Content ID system. This way, the ad revenue stays with you – through your own channel or your AdSense account, not with the rights holder.
At SIDtunez, this works on a video-by-video basis: the catalog is registered in the Content ID system through the service provider AdRev. You specify the YouTube video in which you use the track directly at checkout. That exact video gets whitelisted – the whitelisting takes place within five business days, and any existing claim on that video is removed. A separate license is required for each additional video.
Step by step: resolving a claim
If a claim does appear, you can be free of it again in just a few steps.
Keep proof on hand
The license certificate and invoice are in your account. They serve as proof of your usage rights – even for older videos, months later.
Specify the video
Provide the link to the YouTube video already at checkout. That exact video will be whitelisted at SIDtunez.
Dispute, if necessary
If a claim is already there, you can dispute it in YouTube Studio with the license proof – or the whitelisting will take effect anyway.
Important: Do not submit your production to the Content ID system yourself through a distributor (e.g., CD Baby) or a Content ID service provider. Non-exclusively licensed music must not be registered there – this creates false claims against other licensees.
The DACH special case: "What if the composer later joins GEMA?"
A legitimate concern in the German-speaking market. This is exactly where genuine freedom from GEMA and GVL pays off: SIDtunez has the involved composers, performers, and rights holders contractually confirm this freedom and archives these confirmations. As a result, no performing rights organization can claim royalties for the covered use. Learn more in the article Royalty-Free Production Music.
